Concrete Actions by BEM UNESA to Create a Sustainable and Enduring Environment

unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Environmental issues are a global concern. Therefore, concrete steps are needed to raise environmental awareness. This is what the Ministry of Environment of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) did on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
They organized an environmental awareness movement by planting mangroves and cleaning the Wonorejo Mangrove Ecotourism area in Rungkut, Surabaya.
The UNESA Environmental Action (UEA) #2 program carried the theme "Care for Nature, Nurture Life, Bequeath the Future."
Fadhil, the chief organizer, said that this activity is a program of BEM UNESA through the Ministry of Environment designed to ground the environmental care movement in the community, especially among students and the younger generation.
"The grounding of the environmental care movement must be done with concrete actions that have a direct impact on the environment. Environmental issues are awareness issues that need to be built through movements like this," he said.
He added that this activity is also intended to gather the participation of the community and young people to be more concerned and contribute to caring for and preserving the environment.
BEM UNESA President, Sutrisno, stated that this activity, in collaboration with the Trash Control Community (TCC), involved young people and the surrounding community.
"This movement is one form of BEM UNESA's commitment to creating a clean, green, and healthy environment as an important investment for the future. This is also part of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," he said.
Ziadatur Risqiyah, Chair of the Trash Control Community, emphasized the importance of this activity to be carried out sustainably in the future. "The hope is that this action does not stop at one opportunity but becomes a sustainable movement," she said.[*]
