UNESA's Commitment to Develop International Standard Education Based on SDGs

Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) continues to show its commitment in developing international standard education. One of the efforts is to increase involvement in international forums and activities.
Recently, UNESA and University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia held a workshop titled “Development of International Standard Curriculum Based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” on October 23-27, 2024.
This activity was held at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia, which is a QS World Top 20 campus.
This activity presented experts and leaders from both institutions to discuss SDGs-based curriculum implementation strategies that are expected to support the improvement of education quality at UNESA.
Fida Rachmadiarti, Director of Educational Transformation and Learning Technology at UNESA, explained that the SDGs-based curriculum is designed to equip students to face global challenges, such as climate change and social injustice.
According to her, an understanding of sustainability will help students become leaders who are able to bring positive changes in society.
This view was also supported by Widowati Budijastuti, Director of UNESA Quality Assurance Agency, who emphasized the importance of ensuring the new curriculum is relevant to international standards so that UNESA graduates can compete at the global level.
“This workshop is a place to strengthen collaboration between UNESA and UNSW in the fields of research, student exchange, and the development of sustainability-oriented teaching modules,” said Widowati.

On the same occasion, UNSW gave its full support to this initiative. Karin Sanders, Senior Deputy Dean, Research and Enterprise of UNSW stated that sustainability-based education is an important investment for the future.
This support was also expressed by Louise Fitzgerald from UNSW, who believes that the implementation of international standards can improve UNESA's competitiveness at the global level.
The workshop resulted in a number of strategic plans, including the development of SDGs-based teaching modules, sustainability-based project development, international research collaboration, and student exchange programs.
A continuous evaluation system was also designed to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant and effective in responding to the needs of the times.
With this collaboration, UNESA is expected to strengthen its reputation as a higher education institution committed to sustainability and social responsibility.
As a first step, the results of the workshop will be realized in joint publications in international journals as well as conferences involving UNSW lecturers as speakers.
These steps are expected to not only improve the quality of education at UNESA, but also give birth to a generation of responsible and visionary future leaders."[*]
