Overcoming Waste Problems, PPK Ormawa Team Designs SIMENS Application, with Call and Location Features

Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Technology continues to develop making Surabaya State University (UNESA) students initiate a waste management application that has Zero Waste principles. This innovation is called SIMENS which was initiated by the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) DPM FMIPA UNESA team.
PPK Ormawa itself is a program to strengthen the capacity of ormawa through a series of ormawa coaching processes by universities which are implemented in community service and empowerment programs.
This service program was carried out in Pucuk Village, Dawarblandong District, Mojokerto Regency. Fitriari Izzatunnisa Muhaimin, B.Sc., M.Sc., as the supervisor said that this application has a number of features.
In addition to containing information about basic matters related to waste, the main feature of this application is used as an intermediary for the community to collect waste without having to come to the waste bank.
“The waste problem in the area is considered crucial, so the presence of this application is expected to be able to overcome the problems in Pucuk Village, Mojokerto,” he explained.

Gian Firdaus Putra Suryadi, team leader, said that the working principle of the SIMENS application is that people can use the call feature to contact officers to collect garbage at home.
Of course, the feature is accompanied by live location so that officers can visit the home address used by application users. Users can also create a routine schedule for garbage collection.
“The garbage deposited will be exchanged for points in the application and these points if collected can be exchanged for processed goods from the garbage house or groceries,” he explained.
In addition, the application of SIMENS can help calculate the amount of waste deposited such as how much organic and inorganic waste. This is considered to be able to help residents in dealing with waste problems, and make local residents who have not worked to become the SIMENS application management team.
The team leader explained that SIMENS was present to answer the waste problem in the village which was less effective because it did not have a landfill (TPS). The community is still confused about the actions that must be taken to tackle waste management.

The development of this application system, in addition to reducing waste problems, also encourages the use of gadgets in solving everyday problems such as waste.
This application can be downloaded by local residents through the web page provided. To register for membership of the application, people only need to enter their username, home address, photo ID, and password to be used.
For document verification, registrants only need to enter the code sent by the manager at the email used to register. “Hopefully this can help improve the effectiveness of waste management with a sustainable system. Thankfully, this will inspire other villages,” he concluded.
The PPK Ormawa UNESA team behind the application are Aghniya' Maulia Meyrtha R, Devira Cahaya Yunita, Firda Shofiana Afifah, Anisah Fitri Rahmi Pratiwi, Shelvia Junita Putri, Aang Gunaifi, Nanda Sofa Imamah, Dhea Berliana Puspita, Clarida Cahya Ayuninghyun, Cindhy Novita Sari, Revandika Aji Hidayatulloh, Imanda Novi Artanti, Nurlita Ariyani Benita Dewi, and Siti Sholikhatul Janah.
