UNESA and PLN Sign MoU for Research and Energy Development Cooperation

Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) along with 15 other state universities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT PLN (Persero) in Jakarta on Monday, January 10, 2023. This collaboration between the country's top state universities and the state-owned enterprise (BUMN) is related to human resource empowerment, research, and development in the field of electricity.
The President Director of PT PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that this collaboration is part of a synergy to produce various innovations targeted for the future.
"We only have 54 researchers. In 2023, we plan to produce 120 products. There is a significant gap between the number of researchers and the number of products to be produced. This collaboration is expected to produce various products as expected and, of course, will be sustainable," he said.
He added that they already have research clusters, ranging from transmission, distribution, to power generation. Power generation research includes New Renewable Energy (NRE). Some NRE sources for power generation include geothermal, ocean currents, and biomass.
The collaboration in energy transition management by various universities will be accompanied by a scholarship program by the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP). The direction of this program is to achieve the goal of Indonesia Emas 2045 through improving the quality of students.
"This target is also in line with programs that support national priorities in the public research sector. This scholarship is a good opportunity for students," he said.
Meanwhile, UNESA Rector Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., said he is ready to succeed in the collaborative program integrated into the national priority program. According to him, UNESA has a number of capable resources to achieve the goals of this collaboration.
"We have a number of researchers who certainly have experience in researching sustainable energy. Of course, we are ready, and for us, this is a very strategic collaboration that will determine the success of Indonesia Emas 2045," said Cak Hasan.[]
