UNESA Hosts ICRACOS 2024: Discusses Latest Research in Environment-Energy, Supporting Sustainable Development Goals

Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—The International Conference on Research and Academic Community Services (ICRACOS) was once again held by Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) through the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) online on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
This sixth ICRACOS carried the theme "Current Research and Academic Community Services on Environment, Energy, and Earth Sciences for Supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."
Regarding this theme, UNESA invited academics, researchers, and practitioners from both domestic and international backgrounds to present case studies, theoretical papers, empirical studies, and other papers in broad fields that support research and community service programs.
Several speakers were present, including Prof. Dr. Hj. Luthfiyah Nurlaela M.Pd. from UNESA; Dr. Asia Ashfaq from Bahria University Islamabad, Pakistan; Associate Prof. Dr. Mun'im Sirry from the University of Notre Dame, USA; and Prof. Tezara Cionita from INTI International University, Malaysia.
The event was opened with a speech by the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Ranking, Publication, and Science Center, UNESA, Bambang Sigit Widodo, who stated that SDGs have universal, integrated, and inclusive principles to ensure no region is left behind.
"UNESA has a responsibility to expand the SDGs, let's work together to promote sustainable development, protect the environment, fight inequality, and ensure a dignified life for all," he said.
The Head of the SGA Center LPPM UNESA, Sjafiatul Mardliyah, stated that the ICRACOS conference is concrete evidence that UNESA has a strong commitment to positively contributing to human resources (HR) and education in Indonesia.
She explained that the purpose of ICRACOS is to bring together academic scientists, researchers, and practitioners to share and exchange experiences and research results in all aspects.
"ICRACOS has been around since 2019, the knowledge and experience managed by LPPM will be shared in this event. This LPPM research is not only for lecturers but also for other educators and students, so it is hoped that UNESA academics can contribute to the development of science," she said.
Furthermore, in the material session, Prof. Luthfiyah Nurlaela discussed how educational efforts to achieve SDGs in the era of the industrial revolution 5.0, where technology and innovation are key factors in learning and skill development.
"Universities must be able to realize education for sustainable development that includes environmental, social, and economic aspects," she said.
In the same session, Prof. Mun'im Sirry presented his material on religious views for sustainable peace and justice. Meanwhile, Prof. Tezara Cionita shared strategies for sustainable development to build a green environment. In the final session, Asia Ashfaq emphasized the importance of quality education for sustainable development.
Additionally, this year's ICRACOS highlighted five topics representing key points in the SDGs, namely people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnerships. The event, which is part of the Konaspi XI 2024 series, was attended by hundreds of participants and the entire leadership of LPPM and UNESA.[]
