UNESA and PLN sign MoU on cooperation in energy research and development

Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) together with 15 other state universities signed a memorandum of understanding or MoU with PT PLN (Persero) in Jakarta on Monday, January 10, 2023. The cooperation between the country's best state universities and this state-owned enterprise is related to human resource empowerment, research and development in the electricity sector.
President Director of PT PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, said that this cooperation is part of the synergy to produce various innovations that have been targeted in the future.
“We only have 54 researchers. By 2023 we have a plan to produce 120 products. There is a huge gap between the number of researchers and the number of products to be produced. This cooperation is expected to produce various products as expected and of course it will be sustainable,” he said.
He added that his party already has research clusters, ranging from transmission, distribution, to power plants. The power plant research includes New Renewable Energy (NRE). Some sources of NRE for power generation range from geothermal power, ocean currents to biomass.
Cooperation in transitional energy management by various universities will later be accompanied by a scholarship program by the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP). The direction of this program is to achieve the goal of Indonesia Emas 2045 through improving the quality of students.
“This target is also in line with programs that support national priorities in the public research sector. This scholarship is a good opportunity for students,” he said.
Meanwhile, UNESA Rector Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., said he was ready to succeed the collaboration program integrated in the national priority program. According to him, UNESA has a number of qualified resources to achieve the goals of the collaboration.
“We have a number of researchers who certainly have experience in researching sustainable energy. Of course we are ready and for us this is a very strategic collaboration and determines the glory of the golden Indonesia in 2045,” said Cak Hasan. []
