UNESA Holds Socialization of Protocol Guidelines and MC Training with the Chairperson of the Indonesian PTN-BH Protocol Forum

Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) through the Subdirectorate of Governance, Protocol, and Archives held a socialization of protocol guidelines and master of ceremony or MC training with Jack Haryanto in the Auditorium, 6th floor, LPPM Building, Campus II Lidah Wetan, Thursday, October 3, 2024.
Head of Sub-Directorate of Management, Protocol and Archives, Naili Rahmah, said that this activity aims to provide an understanding of the implementation of protocol activities in accordance with the Rector's Regulation No. 23 of 2024.
“Friends are the institution's showcase where public judgment of UNESA can be seen from how you work in an event. Hopefully this opportunity can be utilized well for the future of UNESA,” he said in the activity guided by Hezron Sabar Rotua Tinambunan.
Chairman of PTN-BH Indonesia Protocol Forum, Jack Haryanto said that protocol plays an important role in various important events of the institution. Protocol is the creator of a pleasant and harmonious situation in activities. Therefore, they must understand three aspects, namely, place management, ceremony management, and respect management.
The order of the place such as the arrangement of the flag on the stage, the flag on the table, the position of sitting officials when in a forum with two, three or more than that, and the order in the state banquet should be considered.
For example, when the rector of UNESA hosted the rector of another campus to sign the MoU in the condition of two chairs, the UNESA rector was on the left and the rector of another campus on the right.
“This will be different when the Rector of Unesa hosts the dean of UGM, say, the Rector's position is on the right. If the difference in position is clearly visible, then the rule is to respect the position,” he explained.

The second is about the order of the ceremony. To ensure that the ceremony runs smoothly, the assignment and the person in charge of the ceremony need to be determined in advance. The same goes for the seating arrangement for the guests.
“This seems trivial, but it needs to be conditioned so that the atmosphere of the ceremony continues to run solemnly. This also applies to conferences, visits, or other events,” he said.
The man who also serves as the Coordinator of Protocol of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) said the third thing that needs to be considered is respect. This is about manners in placing, mentioning, and treating someone according to their position in an event.
He added that protocol is required to be able to communicate well, maintain stakeholder characteristics, and look neat. When there are negative things that can impact an event, a protocol must be able to convey straightforwardly while providing clear reasons.
“Only experience can make an event better conditioned. If there is no real problem, we cannot possibly find a solution to be applied in the future,” he said.
Anggara Nugraha, one of the training participants, admitted that so far he only knew the basics about the position of the flag for arrangement on stage or table. “For the sitting position, I just found out that there are rules, according to the position and needs,” he said.
After the socialization, the activity which was attended by UNESA Vice Rector II and followed by dozens of participants was continued with MC training. Participants received important provisions to become MCs who are not only competent, but also creative and innovative."[*]
