Awesome! The PKM FT Team Designs a 3 in 1 Tempe Machine, More Hygienic and Effective

Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—The Faculty of Engineering (FT), Surabaya State University (UNESA) continues to produce various innovations. Recently, through the community service team or PKM, they created a 3 in 1 tempe machine to improve the productivity of tempe-producing MSMEs in Bangkalan, Madura.
The PKM team consists of Rachmad Syarifudin Hidayatullah, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the head, and Ika Nurjannah, S.Pd., M.T., as well as Parama Diptya Widayaka S.ST., M.T., as members.
The tempe machine they created was to meet the needs of MSMEs in the field. For instance, the Tempe Sae Rizqi Ridho MSME in Langkap Barat Hamlet, Burneh District, Bangkalan Regency still uses traditional methods, which are time-consuming and labor-intensive.
"Our demand for tempe is quite high. On the other hand, many tempe producers still rely on old methods, which affect production capacity. To make it faster and more efficient, we designed a special machine for them," said Rachmad on Thursday (7/9/2023).
The innovation they came up with has advantages, one of which is being able to perform three processes simultaneously, hence called 3 in 1; peeling, breaking, and separating soybean husks. Additionally, the production process is believed to be more hygienic.
The machine is equipped with food-grade stainless steel material, making it safer for food. Furthermore, it has dimensions of 60 cm in length, 60 cm in width, and 120 cm in height. The machine is powered by an electric motor with a strength of 0.5 Hp and a capacity of 150 kg/hour.

This innovation can be easily operated by producers as it has been designed to handle the peeling, separating, and splitting of soybean skins simultaneously.
"With this innovation, productivity and effectiveness are expected to increase up to threefold, benefiting the economy of SMEs," said Rachmad.
In the future, through this program, they will provide training and business management assistance at the digital marketing level, one of which is marketing through social media.
The team will help create MSME accounts, then provide guidance on how to publish and promote tempe products on platforms such as Facebook, Shopee, Tokopedia, Grabfood, Gofood, and others. "We hope that the Partner Proposal team can keep up with the times and make their products more widely known," he hoped. [*]
