BRIN and UNESA to Foster Start-ups and Innovations by Students and Lecturers

Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Sub-Directorate of Innovation Results, Business Incubator, and Entrepreneurship at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) held a meeting at the IBT Building, Ketintang Campus, Surabaya, on Friday, June 9, 2023.
The meeting aimed to follow up on the collaboration and discuss the research, innovation, and business incubator development between UNESA and BRIN tenants. BRIN has a program called Indonesia Advanced Innovation Research for Research-Based Start-ups (RIIM PPBR).
To realize this program, BRIN and UNESA are working together to foster start-ups or innovative products created by students, lecturers, or collaborations between students and lecturers.
"The process will reach the incubation stage, which includes mentoring, coaching clinics, and support. This collaboration accelerates research and innovation development in higher education until the downstream process," said Erida Listyaningrum, S.H., M.HM., the functionary of PPBT-BRIN incubation.
She added that this collaboration aims to provide funding opportunities for researchers (students or lecturers). The innovations produced by university researchers will be followed up or validated by the BRIN team and then processed to the downstream stage.
"We hope that in the future, this collaboration will be legalized or followed up through a cooperation agreement (PKS) between BRIN and UNESA. Then we can draft plans and discuss many things continuously," she said.
On that occasion, Erida appreciated the various innovations produced by UNESA. According to her, they are already good. The innovation incubator is already running. The output is not only in the form of prototypes but also products that have reached the market.
"This is what we are trying to develop further and maximize through this collaboration. Our principle is how the products produced can solve customer problems or meet community needs," concluded Erida.
Agung Prijo Budijono, S.T., M.T., Head of the Sub-Directorate of Innovation Results, Business Incubator, and Entrepreneurship at UNESA, said that they have produced and developed many products.
"There are many products in the community that we have developed. We hope that in the future, we can create young entrepreneurs among students and the community. Collaboration with BRIN is an opportunity to continue creating innovations and developing businesses," he said.
Some of the products they have recently produced include an Automatic Tempe Processing Machine, a Semi-Automatic Milk Extractor, an Herbal or Jamu Drying Machine, a Petis Processing Machine, and an Automatic Patient Bed.
