Increase MSME Productivity, PKM-PI Students Design ECU Technology Shoe Press Machine

Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Five students from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Surabaya State University (UNESA), who are part of the Student Creativity Program in the field of Technology Application (PKM-PI), have designed a shoe press machine equipped with an engine control unit (ECU).
This machine was designed to help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of production for MSME leather shoe producers, particularly UD Handoko in Buduran, Sidoarjo.
The shoe press machine was developed by Rifqi Albaariq (S-1 Mechanical Engineering), Kamaludin (S-1 Mechanical Engineering Education), Vemas Aldi Pratama (S-1 Mechanical Engineering), Cherin Febriana (S-1 Mechanical Engineering Education), and Nugraha Prasetya Derajat (S-1 Mechanical Engineering). They were mentored by Agung Prijo Budijono, S.T., M.T.
Kamaludin explained that the innovation they developed is a solution to address the complaints of the leather shoe MSME, UD Handoko, which still uses traditional methods. The manual process of pressing shoe glue results in uneven distribution, inefficiency, and is time-consuming.
Their machine is based on a spiral jack and is equipped with several components. Firstly, an electric motor, which functions to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. This machine uses a DC motor that has a simple construction, is affordable, lightweight, more efficient, and easy to maintain.

Third, the electrical control unit or ECU is an electrical device that regulates the machine's operation. The ECU is the basic brain of a computerized machine. In this machine, the ECU is used to turn on and control the spindle motor's rotation.
Fourth, it has a double clem pressing klebut that functions to adjust the length of the klebut holder according to the type of shoe to be pressed.
Additionally, this Jack Screw-Based Shoe Press Machine has dimensions that do not take up much space, with a length of 40 cm, a width of 48 cm, and a height of 80 cm, with a hollow iron frame material.
The selection of these components makes this shoe press machine have several advantages, such as the pressure and duration of the shoe pressing can be easily adjusted, it can press shoes with a pressure of up to 6 amperes or equivalent to 570 kg, it has a capacity to press one pair of shoes at a time, and of course, it has a low power consumption of around 250 watts.
He hopes this innovation can help improve the country's economy, one of which is by creating an innovative and solution-oriented creation for MSMEs in Indonesia. "This jack screw-based shoe press machine is one of our contributions to MSMEs, to the community, and to the nation," he hoped.
The machine has been tested and handed over to UD Handoko in August 2023. Handoko, the owner of the MSME, thanked the students for the innovative machine. He hopes that the shoe press machine, which can increase his production capacity, can help develop and advance his business. [*]
