The RE2S Program Leads UNESA's Population Study Group to Win First Place in the National Innovation Competition

Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA – The Population Student Activity Unit (UKM Kependudukan) of the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) secured 1st place in the National Innovation Competition for Village Empowerment and Development Programs (LIP3D) organized by Yogyakarta State University (UNY) on Sunday, November 26, 2023.
This competition was held to provide a platform for students, especially student organizations (Ormawa) across Indonesia, to express their ideas in empowering and developing villages.
This Population UKM focused on the topic of Stunting. Before participating in the competition, they conducted surveys in their target location, namely Banjarejo Village, Sukodadi District, Lamongan Regency.
"We have conducted interviews and observations three times since February, meeting with village officials, the village head, midwives, and local family planning counselors," explained Ariyanti Safitri, the team leader of the Population UKM.
The student, often called Titi, explained that based on data obtained from Posyandu (integrated health service posts), there were 15 children in the village affected by stunting. The main factors causing stunting are poor parenting practices, bad water quality, and malnutrition.
Through their findings, she and her team, along with supervising lecturer Ali Imron, decided to launch the Ready Stunting Education House (RE²S) program. This community development-based program aims to achieve zero stunting in the village.
"We prepared the proposal and consulted with Mr. Ali about effective writing structures and the innovations we would highlight in our program," she said.
The proposal was uploaded on the LIP3D UNY website on November 10. They registered in the Public Health (KSM) category, attaching the full names of the team members and their study programs, the name of the supervising lecturer, and the name of the student organization, which is the Population UKM.
The competition selection consisted of three stages: administrative selection, substance selection, and presentation. The proposal passed the first two stages and entered the top six finalists.
Of the six finalists, three addressed the same topic—the issue of stunting. However, only three winners were chosen from these finalists. The Population UKM of UNESA managed to win first place in this competition.
The participants in this competition were: Ariyanti Safitri as team leader, Dimas Adji Permana, Nidya Cahya Nirmalasari, Rosyida Auliya Salsabila, Haniza Kurnia Dwi Putri, Faizzatus Shofia Amalia, Adelia Ni'ma Zakiyatul Azizah, Mayla Eka Sugiarti, Nawang Dwi Retno, and Serly Fortuna Dewi. The supervising lecturer was Ali Imron, S.Sos., M.A.
