UNESA Visual Communication Design Students Showcase Innovation Through Entrepreneurship Exhibition

Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA -- Visual Communication Design (DKV) students from the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) at the State University of Surabaya (UNESA), class of 2022 (4th semester), held an exhibition for their final assignment in the Entrepreneurship course. This two-day exhibition (June 4-5, 2024) showcased the students' creativity and innovation under two themes: "Creatical" and "Animal Crossing."
The exhibition was held in the Exhibition Room, 1st Floor, T14 Building, FBS, Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, Surabaya. On the first day, 36 students from Class A displayed their works with the theme "Creatical." Each group, consisting of 5-6 people, presented various creative and unique products.
Then, on the second day, it was the turn of Class B students to hold an exhibition themed "Animal Crossing," presenting captivating works that drew attention.
Kanya Catya, S.T., M.A., the lecturer of the Entrepreneurship course, stated that this exhibition not only serves as a platform to showcase the students' final projects but also as an avenue to market and sell the products or services they developed during the course.

Thorough preparation, from concept and booth design to marketing strategies, showcases the entrepreneurial spirit of the students.
The purpose of this exhibition is to display the students' creativity and innovation in design, to market and sell the products/services they have created, to enhance entrepreneurial skills, and to encourage collaboration and networking between students, lecturers, and practitioners in the creative industry.
"The products and services exhibited must meet the criteria of originality, creativity, usefulness, and relevance to the design industry," she said.
Innovative Works
One of the booths that garnered the most attention on the first day was the perfume booth led by Nayla Intan. This booth offered a unique experience for visitors to mix their own perfumes.
Although they were new to perfume mixing, Nayla's group managed to attract visitors' attention with their innovation and dedication. Nayla expressed challenges in financing due to the expensive raw materials for perfumes.
"These perfume essences are quite expensive, so we invested around 500-600 thousand rupiahs," said Nayla. However, their hard work paid off with many visitors interested in purchasing their custom-blended perfumes.

On the second day, the "Animal Crossing" exhibition showcased works that were no less interesting.
One of them was Group Five, led by Kinanthi Febrian Valintina, with the project “Tangga Jelajah Nusantara” ("Nusantara Exploration Ladder"), an educational board game about the languages of Indonesia.
Kinanthi explained that their goal was to encourage children, teenagers, and adults to learn local languages in a fun way.
"Our main target is children because they are difficult to teach local languages. However, this game is also aimed at teenagers and adults who may have forgotten their local language lessons," said Kinanthi.
She hopes that this ongoing exhibition can be a platform for students to showcase their abilities and build networks with relevant parties.
