Commitment to Improve Services, UPT Library Inaugurates Creative Lounge and Home Theater Library

Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA-In order to increase reading interest and literacy of the campus academic community 'Home of Champions,' Surabaya State University through UPT Library inaugurated a reading room or creative lounge and home theater at the Central Library Building Campus II Lidah Wetan, Thursday, September 12, 2024.
The event was attended by the Vice Chancellor I for Academic, Student and Alumni Affairs; Vice Chancellor II for Law, Management, Finance, Resources, and Business; Head of UPT Library; deans, directors, and sub-directorates as well as lecturers and students in the rectorate.
Head of UPT Perpustakaan Suroto said, under the activities that began August 15 - September 12, 2024 is in commemoration of the Library Visiting Day which falls on September 14 and the 60th Anniversary of UNESA.
There were many activities held, ranging from story telling competitions for elementary/middle school students in Greater Surabaya and UNESA students, book exhibitions with UNESA partners, to the inauguration of the reading room and home theater.
“We start from August 15 to September 12 for a series of events there are 29 days, starting from story telling SD / MI followed by students, book exhibitions, to the inauguration of reading rooms and home theaters,” he said.

He added that the reading room is an additional facility to improve the quality of library services. Visitors can use the room for reading, discussion, and other activities.
Meanwhile, the home theater is also a new form of library service, so visitors can use it to explore and discuss literature in audio-visual form such as documentaries, and others.
“The principles of our work and services are data integration, digitization, and standardization. The goal is to facilitate and improve service quality,” said the professor of sports education, Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences (FIKK).
He is committed to continuing to provide the best service, by improving information and technology. “The two rooms that have just been inaugurated will later be opened to the public, although UNESA students and academic community remain the main priority,” he said.
Vice Rector I, Academic, Student and Alumni Affairs, Madlazim emphasized the important role of libraries to increase reading awareness for all levels of society, including the nation's next generation.
“Libraries have a central and important role in encouraging the implementation of the tridarma of higher education and improving the quality of literacy at UNESA,” said the professor of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA).

The event continued with the distribution of prizes for the story telling competition at the elementary/middle school level in Greater Surabaya, UNESA student level, appreciation for the innovation of the UNESA reading room officers, and the election of the 2024 Reading Ambassador.
Cindy Laksita, as the elected reading ambassador from FIKK, S-1 Nutrition study program, admitted that she was happy when she was chosen as the 2024 Reading Ambassador. Her motivation to participate in this competition was because she had always loved reading books and lived in an environment that fully supported literacy activities from an early age.
“I feel the benefits of reading books, and there is a saying that books are the windows to the world. I believe and believe that by reading, we can increase the value in ourselves,” she said.
The elected Reading Ambassador expressed her hopes and the next steps she will take after becoming an elected reading ambassador, “I hope that I can hold this mandate well and can increase the reading level of students and their love for reading books,” she said."[]
